Via Derek Zhang:
Are you looking for a coach or mentor to help you navigate your debate career? Connect Debate is an organization that seeks to expand participation in Lincoln-Douglas debate through free peer mentorship. Through the program, TOC-qualified and varsity debaters work with novices and second-year students on circuit skills, general strategy, and tournament preparation. Over the past season, we’ve helped debaters break and reach deep outrounds at several different bid tournaments, and we’re currently looking for more mentees to help over the next few months. To find out more information and apply, visit our website here.
How does the program work?
When you apply through the website, you will receive an email detailing the instructions and expectations for the rest of the season. During the program, you will receive weekly hour-long skype drill sessions and advice/information before and during every tournament. You can also communicate with your tutor to set up a schedule for practice over the summer.
Are there any limitations for applicants?
Though novice experience is recommended, no experience is necessary to apply. There is no age limit; middle-schoolers, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors are all invited to be a part of the program. Space is limited, so make sure to apply as soon as possible!
